I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting (hint, hint) for my dear sisters to give me copies of pictures from our Utah trip. I took my camera but neglected to take any photo's :-( I guess I'll just have to do a post with the 1 picture I did take :-)
My sister Delaina was going to be blessing her baby on March 14th so we decided to go up for that and spend spring break in Utah with them. It was quite the eventful trip.
Thad did not want to take off any time from work (heaven forbid) and I was not about to make that long drive by myself with the kids so we came up with a compromise (kind of). Thad would drive us up, fly home the next day and then fly back to drive us home. That's Thad for you.
Neither of us wanted to drive 10+ hours straight so we decided to stay the night in Vegas and drive the rest of the way Saturday. With Thad going 90+ miles an hour the entire way we were going to get to Vegas in record time, that is until we hit the dang Dam. Holy cow!!!! We literally sat in our car for almost 2 hours not moving more than an inch at a time. All so that they could look into our windows and see if we were "illegal". So much for getting to Vegas early :-(
We finally got there around 9:00 (AZ time) and were so hungry that we went straight to the buffet first and then the hotel. Thad insisted we go to the buffet at the Bellagio. I don't mind spending money on good food but that was not my idea of good food. I have to admit that it also bugs me just a "tiny" bit that Thad will spend $75 on a dang buffet but won't spend 2 cents on something we really need (that's another issue entirely).
Once we finally got checked into the hotel (Treasure Island) and got to our room it was almost midnight. I was pooped and ready for bed. Unfortunately Keely and Thad weren't. Thad wanted to go walk around and see everything so he left me with the kids. Keely finally fell asleep around 1:30 a.m but she was sleeping at the edge of the bed with just my arm keeping her from falling off. I didn't dare move for fear she'd wake up, so there I lay, waiting for Thad to come back and move her to the other bed. At 3:00 Keely tried to roll off the bed so I grabbed her which woke her up. While trying to calm her down Jacey woke up, got confused and fell off the other side of the bed. So now I have two screaming kids and no husband. Aggghhhhh!!!!!
Needless to say he got a lovely text message from me at this time. When he did stroll back in at 3:30 a.m. the kids where finally back to sleep and although steam was still coming out of my ears I just ignored him.
Due to the late night we didn't end up leaving Vegas until 11:00. Normally that would have been okay, we'd still have ended up in Orem by 3 or 4:00. However, by the time we hit Cedar City a huge snow storm rolled in and we were stuck right smack in the middle of it. The roads got so bad we couldn't see more than a few feet in front of us. The windshield kept icing up so Thad would have to pull off the road every 5-10 minutes to wipe them off with baby wipes (that's all we had). Our plan was to stop in Beaver on the way to get some squeaky cheese. We were only able to drive 25-30 mph so it took forever to get to Beaver. I just assumed since the roads were so bad we would just skip Beaver and keep going. No such luck. Thad didn't care if we got stuck in Beaver as long as he got his cheese. Needless to say we were the only ones in the parking lot. When Thad walked in they took one look at him and said "Let me guess, you are from Arizona". Hmm, I wonder if the shorts and flip flops gave it away :-) My parents had almost caught up to us (driving straight from AZ) by this time so we stopped again in Fillmore and waited for them. I have never been so excited to get to Orem in my entire life. It took us over 8 hours to get there. Sooooo not fun.
Thad was supposed to fly back to AZ Monday morning but just couldn't stop answering his dang phone (all emergencies of course) so he changed his flight and flew back home on Sunday. Don't get me wrong, I loved spending the week in Utah with all of my siblings and parents but an entire week of taking care of the kids by myself was enough to kill me off. We took the kids to Thanksgiving point while we were there and Jacey and Keely loved seeing all the animals. Their favorite of course was the pony rides. They would have ridden all day if I'd let them. Some day I'll post those cute pictures :-)
Thad, Jackson and Jeff all flew back in on Friday night so we picked our hubbies up from the airport and went to dinner. Charisse and Jeff were able to get a discount at the Melting Pot so that's where we went. I've never been there before and I probably wouldn't go there again but it was definitely interesting. The sauces were amazing and the dessert was the best part of course. Way to pricey for the small amount of actual food we got. It was fun to be there with everyone though.
We drove home with Gina and Jackson on Saturday and stayed the night in Page. Luckily the drive back was way more uneventful than the trip up :-) I have decided that I will not be making any more road trips until after I've had this baby!!!!!!
(We had to pull over on the way home to change a lovely diaper. We got to see the cutest baby deers along the side of the road.)
